Isaiah (Joe) Bennett Jr, born August 6, 1945, was the eldest son of the late Isiah Bennett Sr. and Magdalene (Maggie) Bennett. He attended Charleston County Schools to include Bonds Wilson High School.

Joe spent the early part of his adult life in New York and upon his return to Charleston, he developed a craft that he loved and was proud of. He was a master brick mason and at every opportunity he would tell the story of how he built (the old) Carey Hilliard's in North Charleston.

Joe, also known as Joe Blow and Shabba, had a love for music, especially James Brown, and many spoke of what a great dancer he was. Later in life, he even acquired a James Brown "doll" that sang "I feel good".

As life sometimes brings, Joe dealt with medical issues which led to his residence at Riverside Health and Rehab. While at Riverside he developed many great and lasting friendships and through these relationships he acquired several nicknames to include Sugar Daddy, Honey bun, Pops, Soldier and Solomon, just to name a few.

He was known to sometimes give folks a hard time and when they gave it back, he loved it! He liked to laugh and he had a special way of telling a story, with all of the motions and emotions that would keep you engaged.

When Joe turned 70 years old, he was in a joyous but melancholy mood. He looked up, pointed towards heaven and said, "God gave me three-score and ten. ME! The Master did that for me! If I die tomorrow I'm ok." God allowed him to live seven more years. Even as his health was failing, he still had moments when he would respond and try to communicate. No one asked how long he would live and the family strived to make his latter days comfortable. Each day he spent with his loved ones, whether he was aware or not, was a blessing from the Lord.

On the morning of November 1, 2022 God called his name and he answered. His appearance confirmed that he was resting in peace.

He was preceded in death by his parents Isiah and Maggie Bennett; granddaughter Stephanie Grace Spencer; sister's Lula M. Grooms and Betty A Watkins; brothers George Bennett Sr, Eugene Bennett and Charles Bennett Sr and brother-in-law Richard Gaines Jr.

He is sadly missed by his daughters Avonee Norton and Letria Rodd of Charleston SC, sons Terrence Bennett and Omar Bennett; grandchildren Christen Spencer, Morgan (Brittany) Spencer, Trevor Spencer, Gabrielle Cummings (Kenny), Kaelyn Spencer; great grand children Jalayia, Khloe, Arzjani, Kai, Kaydynce and Kayshon; god son Karington Shine; his beloved sisters Clarietha B. Gaines of Ladson, SC and Hilda (Sandy) Wilson; sisters-in-law Debbie Bennett of Chicago, Ilinois and Margaret Bennett of Camden, NJ; neices and nephews Pamela, Melveeta, Robbie, Cheryl, Keith, Kevin, Patricia, Sharon, Charles Jr., Cassandra, Theron, Tanesha, George Jr., Leslie, Eugene, Brian; special friend Dwight Grant; Riverside Unit 200 and a host of other relatives and friends. The Home going Service for Mr. Bennett will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2022, 12:00 PM at the funeral home. The Walk thru will take place on Friday, November4, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
