Obituary For Pearl Elizabeth Jackson
Pearl Elizabeth Jackson (née Mitchell) entered into eternal peace as she lived-- with quiet grace and dignity-- on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in West Chester, Pennsylvania. At the time of her passing, Pearl was in Pennsylvania, far from her beloved home state of South Carolina, where she was born, raised, and educated. Pearl was the daughter of Samuel Mitchell and Pearl Priscilla Grant and was born on January 27, 1928 in Charleston. Pearl was extremely proud of the fact that she was the first in her immediate family to obtain a college degree from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, where she graduated with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education in 1950. Pearl dedicated her life to giving back to the students of South Carolina. After obtaining her college degree, Pearl held various administrative and teaching positions in Pennsylvania and South Carolina schools. Pearl was an excellent teacher who motivated hundreds of elementary- school age children during her long and distinguished career as an award-winning educator in the Charleston County school district. During her teaching career, Pearl received several accolades and awards for her exemplary teaching skills, including Charleston County Teacher of the Year for the year 1990-1991. Pearl left an indelible heartprint on every student who was fortunate to have “Mrs. Jackson” as their teacher. But not only her students benefited from her wise counsel; many of her adult friends at the Living Faith church in West Chester, Pennsylvania and the New Life Christian Fellowship church in Goose Creek, South Carolina sought out “Mother Pearl” for her wisdom and support. Throughout her life, “Mother Pearl” was recognized as a beloved mentor and role model to many of her friends and relatives, especially her family of friends at New Life Christian Fellowship. Pearl loved motivating and instilling a lifelong passion for learning in her students, but, in her eyes, her greatest accomplishment, was the academic, athletic, and professional achievements of her only child, Michael. Pearl is survived by her son, Michael S. Jackson, her daughter-in-law, Kamil Ali-Jackson, her three granddaughters, Kendall, Karis, and Kamryn Jackson, her (8) nieces, June Virden, Launa Gibbs, Pearl Hicks, Sheila Lowery, Lazette Harvey, Marcella Brown, Andrea Brown, and Michelle Brown, and two (2) nephews, Maurice Mitchell and Charles Lott, from her brother, Ernest, her sister, Bernice, and her sister, Earline, and all of her grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. She was predeceased in death, by her father, Samuel Mitchell, her mother, Pearl Grant Mitchell, her brothers, Willie, Ernest, and Samuel Lee Mitchell, her sister, Bernice Brown, her nieces, Deborah Mitchell and Linda Clemons, and her only grandson, Ross Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 with the viewing starting at 10:00 a.m., and services immediately after, at New Life Christian Fellowship Church, 358 Liberty Hall Road, Goose Creek, South Carolina 29445 with internment, following the funeral service, at Grant Cemetery in North Charleston, South Carolina. No matter how far Pearl traveled from South Carolina, South Carolina always remained in her heart. And now she is coming home to rest. Pearl is smiling from heaven with the knowledge that her New Life Christian Fellowship family is welcoming her back home. The family of the late Pearl Jackson request that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the endowed scholarship fund established in her memory by her son and his family.
