Obituary For Albert Smalls
ALBERT SMALLS “AL” had an appointment with God, and his sunset on earth was exchanged for eternity at 5:42 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024.
Albert was born January 21, 1951, to the late Mrs. Eva S. Pierce and Mr. St. Julian Charles Wilkie. He was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Robinson Smalls and their son Alderrie’ Smalls. Also, by his brothers Allen Smalls, Johnny Pierce, Clarence ‘Rudy’ Pierce, and his sisters Gloria P. Cherry, and Carol P. Baldquena-Garcia.
Albert attended the public schools of Charleston County including A.B. Rhett Elementary and was a member of Burke High School Class of 1969. Albert left Charleston and moved to New York with his immediate family. When he returned to South Carolina, Al lived on Hilton Head Island where he worked in the hospitality industry for several years. He moved back to the Charleston area and worked at the Frances Marion Hotel. Al was known and sought after as a skilled bartender for private affairs.
Albert gave his life to Christ and joined Charity Missionary Baptist Church on July 18, 2009. He was baptized on August 23, 2009, by his pastor and brother-in-law Rev. Nelson B. Rivers, III. Albert found joy at Charity when he joined the Ushers Ministry. He prided himself on serving at the door because he knew how to make everyone coming through his door smile.
Albert was blessed with a close-knit family who did all they could, while they could, to help him through good and bad times. Even to the end.
Albert leaves to mourn his loss, but cherish his memories, his daughter Tamahqua “Markie” Smalls of New York, and her 2 children, Bryce Alderrie’ Henry and Infinity Alderrie’ Smalls. His daughter Shanese Gadson of New York, and her 2 children, Chandler Aleece Gadson and Kendal Tyler Gadson. One brother, Rev. Irvine Smalls of Harrisburg, PA (Rev. Darlene), six sisters, Frances P. Smalls (the late Melvin), Barbara S. Brown (the late Thomas J.), Carolyn S. Rivers (Rev. Nelson B. III), Shelia S. Mitchell (Anthony Sr.), Min. Carmen S. Bowman (Cleveland), and Laura S. Washington (Kenneth).
He leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
The Home Going Service will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, 12:00 noon at Charity Missionary Baptist Church, 1544 E. Montague Ave., N. Charleston, SC 29405. The Wake Service will take place on Friday, August 9, 2024 at the funeral home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
