Obituary For Alfonso Conyers

Alphonso P. Conyers was born in Charleston, SC on April 5, 1934. He attended Burke High School and went on to study at Claflin University. Alphonso married the late Thomasina Conyers on November 1, 1963.

Mr. Conyers taught at Gresham Meggett and continued his career with the United States Postal Service, where he retired in 1997.

Alphonso was a dedicated member of Centenary United Methodist Church for decades. He served on the Board of Trustees and as the church sexton here. Alphonso also enjoyed his time at Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and became a Lifetime Member.

Preceding him in death is his father, Clarence Conyers; mother, Wilhelmina Conyers; wife, Thomasina Conyers; mother-in-law, Mattie Groves; father-in-law, Thomas Groves; and sister, Claretta Henderson.

Alphonso leaves to cherish his memory, Rev. Lisa C. Hawkins, daughter; Ferrel P. Conyers (Andrea), son; Pamela Campbell (Arthur), daughter; Tara N. Conyers, daughter; Sylvia Middleton (Jamal), granddaughter; Sterling Conyers, grandson; Juliet Hawkins, granddaughter; Chelsey Conyers, granddaughter; Jordan Middleton, great-grandson; Harriett Stegall, sister; Hermenia White, sister; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, 1:00 PM at Centenary United Methodist Church, 60 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC.

Conyers and the entire Conyers Family on the lost of our dear Fraternity brother, Alfonso Conyers whom played a vital role in our beloved fraternal organization. Brother Conyers will surely be miss but for those brothers who are in Christ we will see him again in the Chapter Invisible.
