Dear family and friends of Calvin, On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at Calvin´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor in the U.S. Submarine Force. To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country. To the family... "may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV). Jim Sandman, FTC(SS) Ret, National Chaplain, USSVI. www.jimsandman.com

Calvin was an icon for Tim McGraw's song, "Always Be Humble & Kind." No matter the work situation, our conversation would always steer to his faith in our Lord and the blessings of his family! His life reflected Colossians 3:12:as he always exhibited "kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness and longsuffering" which are the fruits of the Spirit. My life has been eternally blessed by his friendship and inspiration. I pray for the Lord to hold his family in His mighty hands and give them strength to continue until we all see him again at the Pearly Gates in Heaven!

When I started at NIWC as an intern 14 years ago, Calvin became my informal mentor. He always had a kind, welcoming smile and was eager to help in any way he could so that he could foster knowledge in his peers. He provided the most thoughtful, well researched advice. His capacity for knowledge and dedication to his career were unmatched. But above all, Calvin was just a good human being. When I was going through my own health battle and chemotherapy during COVID, I ran into Calvin as he was walking in the neighborhood. It was so good to see a familiar face. His smile and sunny outlook were always contagious even in the darkest of times. I'm going to miss working with Calvin. The world lost a wonderful human being, but I know that his legacy lives on in his loving family.

I had the privilege of meeting Calvin 25 years ago when I joined the team as a contracting intern. From the start, Calvin embodied joy and excellence. His exceptional work ethic, attention to detail, and structured approach inspired me. I admired how he began each day by outlining his tasks, setting a high standard for himself and others. Calvin was an invaluable mentor, always willing to share his expertise and guidance. One of my fondest memories was our time together at the Dale Carnegie training, where he shared his thoughtful impressions of me with the class. His kind words and recognition of my potential meant a great deal to me, and I felt professionally validated and encouraged. Although we lost touch over the years, Calvin's impact on my career and life remains. I will cherish the memory of his remarkable spirit, dedication, and generosity. I met Calvin 10 years ago when I first started working at the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic as an acquisition attorney. Calvin was an excellent Contracting Officer and became my mentor. As a retired Air Force colonel, it had been a few years since I had worked closely with Contracting Officers. Calvin made my transition possible, never hesitating to share his wealth of knowledge. He was a great man and will be missed. Praying for his wife and family. Barbara Shestko, Counsel, NIWC Atlantic
