MEMORIES AND FRIENDSHIPS ARE TWO OF THE GREATEST GIFTS OF LIFE. THE MEMORIES OF EJ, HENRY AND ME PLAYING SAXOPHONE IN BURKE HIGH BAND AND BASKETBALL IN MY BACKYARD ON SMITH STREET ARE LASTING. TO MY CLASSMATE AND HIS SISTER MARILYN MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY ON YOUR LOSS.

My Brother from another Mother I first met Edward Edgar Jenkins, Jr. during the sixties when we both were in elementary school. While we did not attend the same school, because his backyard was adjacent to my backyard, this enabled us to be able to see each other on a daily basis. This was during the era when everyone's Mother was your Mother, when the one form of communication was the big black hand-held rotary phone, and boyhood activities were abundant. We quickly became friends. With all the boyhood activities, climbing trees, playing tag, playing football in the streets, and just enjoying Life. Without directly planning it, I soon looked forward to seeing Edward on a daily basis. We truly enjoyed each other. As we entered high school, we both entered the marching band where the friendship continued to expand. When we graduated, our lives took different directions, but, that did not in the least weaken the strong bond that was created in our youth. Edward was my best friend. As we grew older, we did not communicate with each other since our lives faced different challenges. I Thank God for Edward's loving sister Marilyn, who saw fit to contact me via Facebook which allowed me to again talk with my buddy. He was not in the best of health, but his inner feelings were totally understandable. While we were not able to physically see each other, the vigor that always existed was still there. I will miss Edward. Yet, the extreme loving care that his wonderful sister displayed during his final days without a doubt made Mama Essie and Mama Sophie extremely proud. Rest In Peace MY FRIEND!!
