Obituary For Ernestine Montgomery Brunet

Mrs. Ernestine Montgomery Brunet, the daughter of the late William Montgomery Sr. and Florence Williams Montgomery, was born on April 11, 1933, and peacefully departed this life on September 28, 2025.

Reared in South Carolina, Ernestine received her education in the Charleston County public school system. Wanting a better life, she moved to New York City.

Following her desire to care for others, she attended MATS Medical Training Schools in Bronx, New York, where she completed her clinical training at Union Hospital. Upon completion, she earned her certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Ernestine devoted much of her life to serving others through her work at Riverside Manor Nursing Home for Adults, where she worked faithfully for 40 years before retiring. In addition to her professional work. she gave of her time and talents through volunteer service with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

After the passing of her mother in 2001, Ernestine returned home to Charleston. She enjoyed being with her family and taking up hobbies such as knitting. She also rejoined Enoch Chapel United Methodist Church, where she loved her church family dearly. She faithfully served on various committees, including Noon Day Prayer, Older Adult Ministry, Senior Choir, and as President of the United Methodist Women.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents, William Montgomery Sr. and Florence Montgomery; Husband, Rafael Brunet; and her siblings, Edna Zanders, Charles Montgomery, Tyrone Montgomery, Margaret Walker, and William Montgomery Jr.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, including her siblings Vivian Moore Hartley (New York), Katherine Mitchell, Harry Montgomery (Minister Anna Montgomery), and Nola Montgomery; her Goddaughter Barbara Montgomery Bennett, "special daughters' Esther Williams Asiedu and Mavis Moore Edwards; and her dedicated niece LaShonda Mitchell, She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family, and countless friends.

Ernestine's life was truly an example of love, service, and unwavering faith. Her wisdom and sage advice will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
