It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Izena Clarience Mitchell on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the age of 63.

Izena Mitchell was born on January 3, 1961 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Mrs. Annie Mae Vaxter—Mitchell Simmons and the late Mr. Johnny Rufus Mitchell. Izena attended Bonds—Wilson High School and worked as a Bus Monitor for Durham School Services.

We know Zena is now resting peacefully with her sister, Mrs. Oregon Coward and Mrs. Yvonne Mitchell, her step dad, Mr. Raymond Simmons who is loved here on earth as well as in heaven.

Those who knew Zena lost a shining light in their lives. She loved her family and believed in family first. She was funny and didn’t mind speaking her mind. She loved everyone. Zena will be missed.

Izena will be missed by her two sons; Brandon and Eric Mitchell, her siblings; Shirley Anderson (Rev. Ronald), Dorothy Mitchell, Michael Mitchell (Carliss) and Johnny Mae Thomas, her grandchildren; Brionna Mitchell. Bella-Star Simmons, Brandon Mitchell, Jr., Brayden Mitchell and a host of uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews, cousins and many many great friends.

The Home Going Service will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, 11:00 AM at Rock of Truth Deliverence Church, 5000 Gaynor Ave., N. Charleston, SC 29405. The Walk Thru will take place on Monday, December 2, 2024 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
