Obituary For John Henry Dangerfield

John Henry Dangerfield was born October 3rd 1954, to the late Mary Lucille Johnson Dangerfield and Calvin Coolidge Dangerfield, in Washington, DC. John attended Roper Junior High School and graduated from Chamberlain Vocational High School.

He furthered his education by attending Prince George’s Community College and began working for the Department of the Navy in April 1973, at the Naval Electronic Systems Command. He worked his way up through various positions and was a successful Technician for many years while supporting various engineering projects. Traveling was an aspect of the job John enjoyed, in addition to visiting other states and cities, it was an opportunity to sample new restaurants (a favorite pastime). In addition to loving food (especially sweets), John loved photography, music, art, the theater and concerts. In 2011, he retired the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command after 38 years of service to the Department of Defense.

John loved the Lord. He was a member of St. Paul Community Church in Washington, DC from his youth. John served in many capacities in the church there for many years. In 1995, John moved to Charleston, SC after a Government Base Realignment and Closure. John joined Royal Missionary Baptist Church and again went to work. He served on the Senior Usher Board, worked with the Jr. Brotherhood and assisted with the food bank until his health failed. John was always willing to contribute to the church and fundraisers for various projects. He was a friendly, kind, generous, helpful individual. He was quiet, but could enjoy a good conversation, he was willing to work in the background to make a difference. John had a wonderful sense of humor and always quick to smile brightly when he greeted a friend.

One brother, Calvin Coolidge Dangerfield preceded him in death. “Cooley” resided with John for many years and John cared for the well being of his brother.

John has gone to his reward, and many are left to grieve his loss. His siblings, Deborah Dangerfield, Gregory Dangerfield and Anthony Dangerfield. One niece, Miosha Dangerfield. Goddaughter, Syreeta Fields and Godson, Azel Womble; life-long friend, Jennifer Fields and many cousins and other relatives. He will be sorely missed by friends who became his Charleston family, Amanda and Michael Womble, Martha Dorsey, Deirdre and Reginald Brown. John resided four years at Cypress Place Senior Living in Summerville, the staff there are too many to name, but they cared for him with love and are truly saddened by the void of his loss.

The Home Going Service will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the funeral home at 3:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in Harmony Cemetery, Landover, MD.
