Obituary For Julia B Martin
Our beloved Aunt Julia B. Martin, Matriarch, heart of our family, a beacon of love and wisdom, our guiding star, a pillar of strength, a treasure trove of stories, a source of endless comfort, her memories live on in our hearts.
Julia B. Martin was born on November 06,1939 in Jasper County, Pocotaligo, to Ethel Mack and John Brown. She was educated in the public schools of Yemasee, SC where she graduated. After high school she relocated to Hempstead, New York to live and assist her sister Dora Hamilton. There she was offered a modeling position, however, her parents advised against it. She then pursued her interest in art, where she drew professionally many portraits of various items and people, one of her prized drawings, the picture of Christ and in later years her son. She also enjoyed singing, exercising. reading, and working on Bible puzzles. On October 5,1963
She became a proud mother of a son, Derryl B. Martin. She met the love of her life, William Archie Martin when she and her sister moved back to Charleston SC in 1964. Excited to start their new lives together, the two married on January 11, 1966. They, became a blended family enjoying the wonders of parenthood with two beautiful boys, Ronald Martin and Derryl B. Martin.
Julia joined Canaan Missionary Baptist Church at a young age where she sang on the choir and served on the Pastor Aid Board until her passing. She was passionate in her service to the Lord; she participated in many programs and was dearly love and showed appreciation by the members of Canaan. As she stated, "What life means to me is to love everybody and worship with my sisters' and brothers in Christ.'" She wore many hats and kept her love for fashion as she would always look her best.
As her nieces passionately remember going to her house to enjoy dressing up in her jewelry and nail polish. Aunt Julia worked several jobs throughout her life diligently, her humble beginnings at the Cigar factory in Hempstead as a machine operator, Idly Wild Restaurant in Charleston, SC. and later at the Charleston Airforce Base where she retired.
