Obituary For Julian Snype
Born on Johns Island, South Carolina, 100 years ago, Julian (Bolgu) was the son of Marie Wilkerson and Charlie Snipe. Proceeding him in death were his beloved siblings: brothers Christopher, Oliver, Edward, Willis, Hardie, Charlie, Ben and Nathaniel; and sisters Louisa, Hattie, Christine and Ruth.
Eager to explore the world beyond the family farm, he enlisted in the Army in 1942 at the age of 18. During his service in Germany, a mine exploded, destroying the supply truck he was near. As a result of his injuries, Julian was honorably discharged from the Army in 1945. Julian received the Good Conduct Medal and the European, African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon
Julian moved to New York City where he met and married the love of his life, Catherine Peterson in 1951 when he was 27 years old. Catherine preceded him in death on July 14, 2015. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose greatest joy came from his family. He was blessed with a total of 8 children, Millie Capers (husband John, deceased), Mildred Cochran (husband Keith, both deceased), Rev. Dr. Brenda Stallings (husband John deceased), Shelby Warren (husband Teddy, both deceased), Julie Forrester, Valerie Lee (husband William), Julian Snype (wife Lisa) and Pamela Anderson (husband Michael) each of whom brought unique light into his life.
Julian worked for many years as a butcher, which made for many fantastic meals. Each dish he prepared was a true labor of love creating not just food but cherished memories around the dinner table. His home was filled with laughter, love and the warmth of family gatherings. Julian and his brother Ben owned a cleaners, where he honed his skills in mending and tailoring clothes. We considered him a master tailor because there was nothing he couldn’t sew or fix for his family.
Julian was a Mason at the Booklyn Masonic Temple.
On October 25, 2009, Deacon Julian Snype received the honor of Deacon Emeritus for his Loyalty, and Distinguished Service for the Diaconate Ministry of the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Inc
Julian was blessed with a total of 14 grandchildren including one who preceded him in death Katheryn Taylor, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
