Obituary For Kathy Denise Lundy

Kathy Denise Lundy, 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2025, surrounded by her brothers, two compassionate hospice nurses, and the other loves of her life—her dogs, Maggie and Ali.

Born to Carrie Virginia and Jefferson Lee Lundy, Kathy was a devoted daughter, a thoughtful sister to Ronald and Martin, and a cherished aunt to her nephew, Marcus. She graduated from Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, VA, and earned her degree from Hampton University in Hampton, VA.

Throughout her career, Kathy embraced a variety of roles with curiosity and care. She served as a dispatcher for the Newport News Police Department, and later as a department head at Kmart while living in New Jersey. Her favorite role came after moving to Goose Creek, SC where she was selected by the U.S. State Department to serve as a passport specialist at the Charleston Passport Center—a position she held with pride and dedication.

Kathy’s greatest passion was the care and protection of animals. Her brothers affectionately called her “Doctor Doolittle,” a nickname earned through countless rescues and tender stories of compassion. Her love for animals was not just a hobby—it was a calling.

She is survived by her brothers, Ronald and Martin, and her nephew, Marcus. She was preceded in death by her brother Jefferson Larry, her father Jefferson Lee, and her mother Carrie Virginia.

Kathy’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Goose Creek Veterinary Clinic, in honor of Kathy’s love for animals, or to Roper St. Francis Hospice Care, whose team provided her with exceptional support.

Kathy was the only friend I had in South Carolina who was from my hometown of VA. We worked to for over a decade together, attended the same church and shared many memories from VA. We loved our four legged friends as well. She was an absolute joy to have as a friend and I will truly miss her laugh and amazing spirit. Condolences to her family and I will pray for your strength.

My condolences to the family of Ms. Kathy. She was such a sweet woman. I had the privilege of spending time in her company for several years, as we both shared a passion for reading. Her kind smile and gentle spirit will truly be missed.
