Obituary For Lillie Bell Johnson
Lillie Bell Johnson was born August 10, 1940 in Charleston, South Carolina. Precious Lord took her hand and laid her to eternal rest on June 11, 2024 in Bronx, New York after a courageous battle with a difficult illness. Lillie received her early education in Charleston, South Carolina. She spent most of her employment years working diligently as a household technician. Her diligence was not only apparent in her job life, but also in her everyday life. While working, she made immense effort to take care and provide for her daughter, Velma Palmer (who preceded her in death), as well as other family members and friends. She was a mother and protector to all in her life. She later retired and began a well deserved rest after many years of hard work. Lillie accepted Christ as her Savior at the early age of 10 years old and this relationship served as a strong foundation throughout her life. She carried this faithful relationship from Charleston, South Carolina to Bronx, NY where she found solace and community for 46 years at Victory Baptist Church. Lillie had an endless love for her family and friends as well as for her expensive taste in seafood. She enjoyed listening to the word of God, gospel, fashion, and shopping not only for herself, but for those close to her. Lillie leaves to cherish her loving memories and compassionate spirit: her grandchildren, Marquis Johnson, Malcolm Johnson, Ayshianna Jones; her Godson, Damon Postell, her sister, Bertie Mae Robinson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; close friends of the family Joseph and Susan Diamond, and many, many friends. Lillie was preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Annabell Brown and Dorothy Noble. A devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, niece, and friend she leaves behind a legacy of outpouring love and generosity. Her grandchildren would like to give special thanks to their cousins, Cynthia, Victoria, Alexis, Hannah, Jacob; their aunt Inez; Ayshianna's godmother, Shawn; and Marquis and Malcolm's father, Jerome Petway; and close family friends Susan and Joseph. They greatly appreciate you all for being with them daily during their grandmother's time of illness. Her granddaughter would also like to share that Cynthia Jackson, Damon Postell, Victoria Prince, King (Crystal) Robinson, Jacob Moore, James Moore, Reggie Brown, and Hannah Griffin shared a special bond with her grandmother. They brought her joy, and most importantly they made her feel loved.
The Home Going Service will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024, 11:00 AM at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
