Obituary

Louis Randolph Hilton was born February 28, 1945, in North Charleston, South Carolina, in a community known as Liberty Hill. He departed this earth on August 22, 2021. His parents were James and Mattie Hilton. He graduated from Bonds Wilson High School and joined the military in 1963. Louis served his country in the Army from 1963 to 1968. He completed two tours of Vietnam as a member of the United States Army Special Forces known as the Green Berets. His commendations included the Vietnam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Louis was affectionately known as The Red Dragon, a name he was given during his time in Vietnam. The Red Dragon was known all over Liberty Hill for his rambunctious spirit and his tenacious pursuit of a good time. He could inspire fear in his enemies while also demonstrating tremendous warmth and compassion in the defense of his friends and loved ones.

Louis often worked in construction and other areas that fulfilled his interest in building and machinery. However, he was most at peace when he was fishing or gardening. Louis had a passion for growing fruits and vegetables and planting flowers. One of his latest hobbies was taking pictures of various flowering plants that he discovered in his neighborhood. He also loved country music and watching westerns. Louis is survived by:

Four children: Valerie Hilton, Sharon Hilton, Louis Hilton III and Angela Hilton. His son, Timothy Hilton, passed away in 2002;

His niece, Laurel Hilton, who cared for him with a level of dedication and compassion that was awe-inspiring and who was by his side during his last moments on this earth;

Countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends;

Finally, his ex-wife, Carrie Hilton, whom he always considered to be the great love of his life.
