Obituary For Lucille Dennis

Lucille Dennis, daughter of the late Cleve and Elizabeth Oliver McVein, was born on February 27, 1929, in North Charleston, (Company Land) South Carolina. She had three brothers and six sisters all who has preceded her in death.

Lucille was married to Gussie Dennis Sr., of Cainhoy, South Carolina on October19, 1947. To that union they were blessed with six children, four girls and two boys. Thirty-five (35) years later they renewed the vows on October 19, 1981.

Lucille attended public school in Charleston, South Carolina, but her passion for cooking was realized at an early age. Around the age of thirteen (13) she became a Salad Cook at a local restaurant in North Charleston.

After marriage, and eight children later, she became a housewife, mother, and grandmother, devoting her life to the welfare and care of her family. In 1966, she returned to her passion, cooking as the Head Cook at Burn Elementary School Cafeteria, in North Charleston, where she worked until 1988, retiring to care for her ailing husband.

Lucille was a member of Zion Baptist Church on Dorchester Road from a child to adulthood. In 1956, She changed her membership to Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Deaconess Board, the Kitchen Committee, Missionary Board and was a faithful member of the Sunday School.

Beyond church committee and boards, she was a member of Unity Chapter #370 Order of Eastern Stars, The Red Hat Society, The Rosemont Community Center Senior Citizen Society and the Sam Hart Senior Citizen Society of Liberty Hill for over 30 years. Being a member of these Organizations and Societies allowed her to see and explore many places throughout the continental United States.

She leaves to cherish her memories written into this book f life six (6) children, one who preceded her in death (Albertha Dennis Frazier), Jeanette (Nathaniel) Williams, Gussie Jr. (Carlotta) Dennis, Barbara (Herodius) Ladson, Marilyn (Sherman) Pyatt, Alvin Sr. (Julie), Corey Dennis Sr.,(Tressa) who preceded her in death, Tyrone Dennis Sr., Alice Washington, Sister-in-law, Mary Dennis, Sister -in Law, Ethel Poole Sister – in Law, Eleven (11) grandchildren, Seventeen (17) great grandchildren, (9) great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friend.
