Obituary For Luke Bruno Holmes

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Luke Bruno Holmes, affectionately known as "Nokie," on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Luke was 61 years old at the time of his passing and was a beloved father, brother, son, uncle, and friend.

Born on November 3, 1963, in North Charleston, South Carolina, Luke was the son of the late George A. Holmes Sr. and Lillie Mae Holmes. His family was everything to him, and he was often described as the "glue" that held them together. His magnetic personality and infectious charm made him a beloved figure in his community, and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Luke was a proud member of the Bonds Wilson High School Class of 1982, where he was a star player on the football team, the Bonds Wilson Cobras. He went on to further his education at South Carolina State University before serving his country in the United States Navy. His time in the Navy was cut short after an accident during his service, but he was honorably discharged, and his courage and dedication to his country remained a point of pride throughout his life.

After his military service, Luke found his calling as a technician for Roto Rooter Plumbing. Known far and wide for his exceptional plumbing skills, Luke became a trusted name in the community. People from all over would reach out to his family, seeking his expertise—there are very few toilets on Liberty Hill that Luke didn’t touch! His work, along with his unwavering dedication to helping others, earned him the admiration and respect of countless friends and clients.

Luke’s legacy extends far beyond his work. He was the life of the party, a social butterfly with a heart of gold. His humor, kindness, and ability to connect with people left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. Luke’s love for his family was limitless, and he always made sure they knew how much he cared.

Luke is survived by his daughter, Meleah C. Holmes of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers, George A. Holmes Jr., Kenneth L. Holmes, Elmore Holmes and Paul(Carolyn) Washington, all of Charleston, SC; sisters, Deetonia Holmes and Robin (Charles) Fludd of Charleston, SC; nephews, Cedrec(Awny) Holmes and Benjamin T. Wallace of Charleston, SC; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, George A. Holmes Sr. and Lillie Mae Holmes.

Though Luke has left this world, his light, laughter, and love will continue to shine in our hearts forever. May he rest in eternal peace.
