Obituary For Matthew Rivers, Sr.

Mr. Matthew Rivers 88, of Charleston, South Carolina died on Tuesday, September 1, 2021. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM, The Low Country Mortuary, 1852 E. Montague Ave, North Charleston, SC. Burial will be at The Live Oak Memorial Cemetery, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC. The walk through for Mr. Rivers will be on Monday, September 6, 2021 at The Low Country Mortuary from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Due to the COVID pandemic, we will be practicing social distancing and face masks will be required for the funeral services and walk through.

Mr. Rivers is survived by his devoted wife, Lillian M. Rivers and his children; Anthony Washington New York, Kathey Green-Van Cliff (Kevin) Virginia, Jane Marie Johnson (Kenny) Seattle, Washington, Jeffrey Rivers Seattle, Washington, Minister Matthew Rivers (Henrietta) Charleston, SC, Colonel Wendy Rivers Washington DC, Vernon Miller Jr. (Leigh Miller Esq.) Reno, Nevada; Siblings Barbara Ancrum, Evangelist Kathleen R. Fludd, Gladys Smalls New Jersey, Henry Mitchell Jr, Raymond N. Mitchell Columbia, Sister-in-laws Pernia Bobo Mitchell, Valerie Stubbs and Marilyn Grant, Nieces Deidre Wilson. Mr. Rivers is preceded in death by parents, Willie Rivers and Mary Smalls and Step-father Eugene Smalls, as well as siblings Albertha Lane and Lawrence Greene, brother-in-laws Edward ‘PD’ Mitchell and Herbert Mitchell and sister-in-law Mildred Wilson.

    I met Matthew many years ago at the VA Hospital.Always soft spoken.I pick him up on Sunday Morning for worship.Visited him at home.We joke a lot n I will miss him.Condolense to the family
