Obituary For Mattie Singleton Henghen
On the morning of April 25, 2020, Mattie Singleton Henghen answered the master’s call. She departed this life at her residence with her grand nephew Creighton Codrey by her side. Mattie S. Henghen was the daughter of James Singleton and Mattie Green Singleton who both preceded her in death. She was born in Charleston, SC and educated in the public schools of Charleston, SC. She graduated from Burke High School in Charleston, SC. and obtained a trade in Culinary Arts from Burke High School and Vocational Education in Charleston, SC. She was also employed at the Historic Cigar Factory and Medical University of South Carolina in Food Services. She also worked with her sister the late Anna Nelson Petterson and brother-in-law, James Oliver Petterson - Owners of Pete’s Grill and several of their businesses on St. Phillip Street, Chas, SC She retired from Kitty Fine Foods on Morrison Drive after 30 years of service as the Head Cook. Mrs. Mattie Henghen was also featured in Good Eats Magazine on February 2017. After retiring, Mrs. Mattie S. Henghen served the Charleston community in various ways, including volunteering and helping feed the homeless and less fortunate at the Star Gospel Mission (Chas, SC) and the Church of the Holy Communion Episcopal Church 218 Ashley Ave. Chas, SC. She was united in holy matrimony to Motkue Henghen,Sr. who preceded her in death. They were bless with three children, two children preceded her in death; Roberta Henghen and Motkue Henghen, Jr. Siblings; Edna S. Codrey (Rev. Lemuel Codrey,Sr), Anna Nelson Petterson(Pete) and Phillip Jones -Perceded her in death. Sis. Mattie S. Henghen was baptized at an early age and became a member of Vanderhorst Christian Memorial Episcopal Church. She was the Vice President of the Choir. In spite of her physical condition she was faithful. Mrs. Mattie S. Henghen has received numerous achievements and her many contributions to the City Of Charleston. Sister Henghen leaves to cherish her memories, daughter; Delores Henghen Jamison Grandchildren: Tracy Jamison, Wendell Jamison, Terrence Jamison, Shawn Jamison and Trinette Jamison. Great Grandchildren: Shaquana Jamison, Shardei Jamison, Brittany Folkes, Rawle Folkes, Kimberly Jamison, Kayim Jamison, Izian Day, Justin Jamison, Gabiella Jamison, China Jamison, Choice Clay, Maliky Jamison. Great Great Grandchildren: Gessley Oliver Jr., Sariyah Pompay, Lauryn Schultz, Amair Schultz, Imani Clay, Kaiden Clay. Sister in Law: Mrs.Theola Jones. A very special grand nephew and caregiver, Creighton Codrey and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family, and friends.
