Obituary For Mitchell Blane

On April 15th, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana, MITCHELL BLANE entered the world as a child of God - Unofficially Weighing a remarkable 16 lbs 8 oz, earning the distinction of being the largest baby born in that city at that time.

“BLANE” As most of us have grown to call him, was the sixth child out of 8 children of Richard and Mattie Blane.

“BLANE” Attended public school #63 and later George Washington High School.

“BLANE” Joined the U.S Navy August 1963 serving under Multiple Ships and Bases, including Bermuda where he met the Love of his life BARBARA. During his time in the Navy, he held various roles including Head Barber, Supervisor of the laundry room, Cashier at the Navy Exchange, and Club Manager while stationed in Key West, Florida. After serving in the Navy for 23 years Blane retired honourably in Charleston South Carolina June of 1986.

“BLANE” and Barbara’s love story began over five decades ago in Bermuda. As Barbara fondly recalls, she stopped by a neighbourhood club to visit a girlfriend who happened to be starting her shift, only to find Blane there sitting at the bar, chatting with her while waiting for his bus, when Blane Stood up Barbara Gasped saying OMG “THE LORD IS MY SHEPARD, I SEE WHAT I WANT”. 51 years later she still has that sparkle in her eyes for him, not quite ready to let him go yet, but with God’s plan she just has to go with the flow, because she knows in due time she’ll get to see him again.

“BLANE” On April 25th, 1974 married is true love Barbara, with love and commitment, and the type of man that he was, embraced Barbara’s children, Belinda and Phillip. A year and half later, they welcomed their son Maurice. Blane along with his daughter Monique Wright, formed their blended family.

“BLANE” Loved all sports, but Football and Basketball was his favourite. He played for the Navy team which subsequently led to him to trying out for the Indiana Pacers. He spent many hours watching his teams, Indianapolis Colts “Go Colts” and Indiana Pacers “Go Pacers”. His other passions would be, Cruising, hanging out at the casinos with Barb, playing his lottery number’s, scratch off’s and just spending quality time with his family and friends, and loved every chance he had talking and laughing with his siblings.

“BLANE’S” Leaves behind a legacy of Love and Cherished Memories. He is survived by his beloved Wife: Barbara, Children: Belinda Harris (ED), Phillip Francis, Monique Wright (Gary) and Maurice Blane. Sisters: Marriam Miller and Julie Blane Morris. Brother: Matthew Blane. Sisters In Laws: LaJuana Blane, Valerie Blane, Venita Smith, Grennel Stocks (Doyle) and Beryl Furbert (David) Brother In-law: Maxwell Riley (Rebecka) Predeceased by: His parents, Brothers: Collis, James ”Jim”, Mark and Benjamin ”Ben”. Grandchildren: Mikela Phillips, Ed’Dwina Harris, Patrica Petteway, Ed’Demiko Harris, Patrick Petteway, Marshall Blane, Makenzie Blane. Bonus Grandchildren: K’cia Jones, K’moni Farrow, Kevin Brown, Kam Brown, Iyesha, Tanecia, and Gary Jr. Wright. 14 Great Grand Children. Special Friends: T J Welch, Allen Flowers, Leon Carter, Clara Saunders, Maurline Lowe, Emmy Lou Givens, Joanna Jordan. AND Numerous: Neices, Nephews, and Friends.

    Mr. and Mrs. Blane always made me feel welcome in their home. I remember all the good times we had watching NFL and college football games, in the den with Mr. Blane. And, the Thanksgiving gatherings were awesome. He was a great guy. And, will be missed. My condolences to all the family. R.I.P. Mr. Blane!
