Obituary For Rachel L. Smith - Herrington

Rachel L. Smith -Herrington was born on December 13, 1947 in Charleston, SC to Richard Smith and Annie Brown both preceded her in death. She departed this life on May 2, 2024. Rachel was educated in Charleston and Williamsburg County Public Schools. And she graduated with honors from Blakley High School. After High School, she relocated to New York City to pursue a career as an accountant. Rachel married Larry Herrington of New York who preceded her in death.

Rachel was also preceded in death by her brothers; Herman Lee Smith and Evrith Smith and her uncles and aunts; Lawrence Brown (Edna), Louis Brown Cooper (Louise) and Sadie Brown – McCray.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her siblings; Maple G. Porterfield (Hosey) of North Charleston, her loving companion, Portina Nance of Charleston, SC, Barrick Smith of Summerville, SC and James Miller (Carol) of Greenville, NC, Aunts; Margaret Sanders (Buster) and the late Sadie Brown-McCray, her loving companion, the late Eddie Kendrick, those who held a special place in her heart; goddaughters; Zekira Coley of Ashburn, GA and Rachel Bowens of Charleston, SC, godson, Anthony “Bigman” Martin of Ashburn, GA, Patricia Miller (Caregiver) of Kingstree, SC, Bessie Davis of Ashburn , GA, Charnelle Martin of Ashburn GA and Jeanette Martin of Ashburn, GA and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Home Going Service will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2024, 1:00 PM at the funeral home. The Walk Thru will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

    My heart goes out to the Smith family. Rachel and I were sister-in-law's. We had some good times in our days. Rachel was a good person and she laughed all the time that was what was so beautiful for Rachel her laughter I will always miss her and I will always love her and she will always be my sister-in-law. I love you, Rachel, rest in peace.
