Obituary For Val Sonya Smith

Val Sonya Smith, 52, devoted mother and grandmother was born May 21, 1971 to her late parents; Lucius Smith and Josie Mae Smith in Charleston, SC. Val transitioned from this earthly realm to eternal resting place on July 13, 2023.

Val attended Burke High School. She was known as the neighborhood hair braider when she lived on Gordon Street. Val's family was her heart. She was respected and loved by many. Val always had a passion for cooking. Catering birthdays, holidays, events, etc.. Val's work force included hospitality and customer service.

She is survived by her children whom she loved like no other; Jennifer Smith, Laquan Smith, Sierra Smith, Marcus Smith and Janishia Smith, seven grandchildren; Trevion Smith, JaMeshyia Smith, Journey Smith, LaYani Smith, Kameron Smith, Amayiah Robinson and Laquan Smith, Jr. , two brothers; Joseph Smith (Phyllis) and Lucius “Bam” Smith. 3 brothers preceded her in death; Bruce Smith, Dwight Smith and Jeffrey Smith (Linda), 2 devoted nephews; Jaimee Beall and Leon Jones (Kia), a special acknowledgement to her special cousin, Gail Chestnut and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and special friends. She will be missed by many whom she shared special relationships and love. We loved Val unconditionally and always will. We will miss you dearly, for you were an angel on earth and now you are an angel in heaven. Mommy we learned to never say goodbye, so on today, we will say, “see you later, because one day we will all meet again in HEAVEN!” The Home going Service will take place on Thursday, August 3, 2023, 12:00 noon at St. Matthew Baptist Church, N. Charleston, SC. The Wake Service will take place on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
