Obituary For Willie Mae Haynes - West

Willie Mae Hamilton, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ed and Mary D. Hamilton, was born on July 9, 1954, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Willie Mae received her early education in Charleston County Public Schools in Charleston, South Carolina. She later continued her education at Trident Technical College.

Willie Mae shared her life with the love of her life, Jerome S. West, for over fifty years, and they joined in Holy Matrimony on September 18, 1997. Together, they raised five beautiful children.

Willie Mae received her early Christian training at Mt. Olive Baptist in Union Heights and later joined New Bethel Reformed Episcopal Church, where she served faithfully for over thirty years. She was a member of many organizations, including the Pastor's Aid Board, Women of the Church, Evangelism Team, Senior Choir, and Vestry Board. Willie Mae was President of the Missionary Society of New Bethel Reformed Episcopal Church. She attended weekly bible study and spent many days visiting and praying for others.

Willie Mae was employed with Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, for 47 years, most recently as a Staffing Coordinator. She was hardworking, dedicated to her profession, and always willing to serve others.

Willie Mae was preceded in death by her son, Jerone Hamilton West, and two grandsons, Damrio Ravenel and Denver Simmons. Brother Norman Hamilton and three sisters, Beatrice Washington, Edna Broomfield, and Geneva Hamlet.

She leaves to cherish her memories of her loving and devoted husband, Jerome S. West, and three sons, Oniqua (Akeisha) Hamilton, Sheldon (Octavia) Hamilton, Dominique (Dawn) West Sr., one daughter, Shayla (Neshawn) Fikes II. Twenty-two grandchildren: TaShina White, Oniquia, DaShawn, Omari Hamilton, LaPortia Scott, Latoya Rivers, Ja'Keilla, Sheldon Jr., Sheldon Hamilton II, Trinity Hamm, Kiasha Smalls, Neshawn III, Jerome, London Fikes, Kiamonie Anderson, Dominique Jr., DaShawn, Sincere, Kaden, Donald, Brandon West, Deasia and September Grant. Twelve great-grandchildren, two brothers, Arthur (Gertude) and Garnaris Hamilton, and one sister, Ellery Johnson. Five brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The Home Going Service will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, 11:00 AM at The Alfred Williams Center, 4441 Durant Ave., N. Charleston, SC. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Wake Service will take place on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The New Bethel Reformed Episcopal Church, 1941 Helm Ave., N. Charleston, SC.
