Obituary For Yancey Thornton
Yancey Brown Thornton was born on March 24, 1950 in Charleston, South Carolina to Clement Knox Brown and Evelyn Phoenix Brown both of whom preceded her in death. On November 20, 2024, Yancey answered the call to the Father.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children; Benjamin Brown, Jr. (Marilyn) and Dana Brown, 19 grandchildren and great grands, her siblings; Susan Brown, Laura Brown, Alethia :Lisa” Ravenell and Sarah Brown, a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and other family and friends.
The Home Going Service will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, 11:00 am at Old Bethel UMC, 222 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC. The Walk Thru will take place on Friday, November 29, 2024 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Yancey was one of my dearest childhood friends on Duncan street. We attended Courtenay elementary school, played, went to movies, ball games, etc. She even encouraged me to join the local YWCA because she was a member. I remember her as being nice, kind, funny and a very caring & sharing person. I saw her a number of years ago along with my daughter who was visiting with me. She was tickled pink to meet a childhood friend of mine, especially when Yancey commenced in revealing some of our childish antics. It was so nice seeing her that time. I won't forget it or her! To the family: May tender memories soften your grief. May fond recollections bring you relief and may you find comfort and peace in the thought of the joy that having Yancey in your lives brought.
